The Maltese blogosphere, especially the one that deals with Maltese politics and current affairs, is quite limited. That refers more to the content rather than the number of people who, at some point or another, tried their hand at blogging. The following — a list of blogs I would consider to be in the same category as Malta, 9 Thermidor — might seem long but the rate at which content is updated might vary … drastically. Blogs which are “struck through” have been inactive for more than three months and are “on probation” for a month before being removed entirely.
By the way, blogs are things you update without the traditional media constraint of regularity in time and space. For this reason, what the Times tries to pass off as “blogs” I do not consider as such.
- Andrew Sciberras, a law and philosophy student, who blogs at Progressive Malta
- Arnold Cassola, outgoing Chairman of the Green Party and Party candidate in elections to the European Parliament
- Bertu who blogs at Things that run
- Carmel Cacopardo, Green Party spokesman on Sustainable Development
- Daphne Caruana-Galizia, columnist with the Malta Independent and Malta Independent on Sunday who blogs at Running Commentary
- George Pullicino, Nationalist Minister of Resources and Rural Affairs
- Glenn Abela who blogs at Inredden
- Jacques-Rene Zammit, columnist with the Malta Independent on Sunday who blogs at J’accuse
- James Debono, journalist with Malta Today and former Green Party official and candidate
- Joanna Drake, Head of the European Commission’s Permanent Representation to Malta
- Keith Grech, former Labour Deputy Secretary-General, who blogs at Cacoethes Scribendi
- Michael Briguglio, former Green Local Councillor in Sliema and the Party spokesman on Economic and Social Development, who blogs at Mike’s Beat and Sliema-Malta
- Mickey Malta
- Patrick Attard, gay rights activist and former Green Party candidate who blogs about gay rights
- Ralph Cassar, Green Local Councillor in Attard and the Party’s Public Relations Officer
- Tonio Privitelli who blogs at Gallarija and run42k
- Victor Galea, Secretary-General of the Green Party and Party spokesman on Gozo, who blogs at Fl-Interess t’Għawdex
- Mario Vella, former President of the Labour Party, who blogs at Watersbroken
- Yvonne Ebejer-Arqueros, Green Party candidate in the last election for the European Parliament
Please note that the fact that a blog is listed here does not mean that I’m in agreement with the general line of its content or that I even read it or consider it worth reading.
There are two aggregator blogs, to which I have contributed. These are the Malta Chronicle which covered the 2009 European Parliament election campaign in Malta, an older version dealing with the 2008 Maltese general election and Leħħa ta’ Berqa, micro-blogging in the same vein as Twitter.
The list will be updated regularly as new blogs come to life and others pass away.
